What is AOL Port and how to set your AOL server settings?

Overview

You would first need to set your AOL server configuration to send and receive your AOL mail from another email program.

But it can seem like a super-complex operation if you haven’t done this before.

But you don’t worry about, this article contains all the information you need to do this effectively.

I’ll include SMTP settings and AOL email address configuration POP and IMAP configurations. And I will also clarify what SMTP, POP, and IMAP are and how you can create them for your AOL email program for those who are new to these words.

AOL Mail storage Limit

The attachment file size is limited to 25MB, which means AOL Mail can provide 25GB of storage for new email, 100GB of storage for old email, and 100GB of storage for sent email.

let’s get started with our interesting information:

What is SMTP?

It is the protocol required to set up your AOL email account in another email client.

But what exactly is the agreement? How can SMTP help you out?

A protocol is a set of rules that specify how to communicate or send information between one email account and another.

SMTP is a protocol used by email software to send outgoing emails to the recipient’s email account through your email provider.

How does this work?

SMTP uses an email transfer agent (called SMTP relay) to ensure that all email is sent to the correct email account.

If you don’t know the correct email address of the person you are sending the email to, a good email search tool can help. Click on the top five email search tools available today.

SMTP relay helps send emails from the SMTP client (i.e., the email program you are using) to any SMTP mail server.

What is an SMTP mail server?

An SMTP mail server is any computer running SMTP!

These servers ensure that your email is correctly routed to the recipient’s email application. Each email is moved between servers until it reaches its destination.

By the way, read this article about the best email tracking software to use in 2020 to learn how to track outgoing email accurately.

SMTP uses a series of commands to simplify sending emails between multiple servers. However, it cannot send attachments, only text.

So how do you send your attachments?

Usually, the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) protocol works here. It encodes non-text data into text before sending emails to primary, Cc, and Bcc recipients through the email provider.

What is the difference between the Primary Receiver and the Bcc Receiver?

Blank carbon refers to “blank carbon”, which allows you to route emails to recipients carefully. But you shouldn’t use Bcc to send emails to multiple recipients. Check out this guide to learn how to use BCC for email properly.

How to set your AOL server settings

Let’s take a look at adding account settings in an email client (such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.).

In most cases, your email application allows you to set up SMTP and POP / IMAP through the account settings in the email application you are using.

All you need to do is add the AOL account to the email application and then enter the SMTP and POP / IMAP parameters in the account settings to set up the incoming and outgoing email servers.

For example, you can manually set these protocols in the Microsoft Outlook (formerly Hotmail) account settings as follows:

Step 1

Open your Microsoft Outlook email application.

Step 2

Go to File> Information> Account Settings> Server Settings.

Step 3

Then click on “Outgoing Email” and enter the relevant settings. The Outlook interface shows the option “Server Settings.”

Server port: 465

Encryption: TLS / SSL

SMTP Username: Your full AOL email address (including “@ aol.com”)

SMTP Password: Your AOL password

Step 4

You can use the same outgoing server email settings to set up AOL emails for Mac or Windows 10 mail applications, Apple iPhone or Android mobile applications, or web browser programs. Now you are ready to write emails to be sent from your email program!

If you need help activating email, check out the helpful guide here, which tells you all about how to start an email.

  1. POP and IMAP

After you set the SMTP settings in the email application, you can send outgoing emails from your AOL email account.

However, you still need POP or IMAP email settings to receive incoming emails from the email service!

Fortunately, like setting up SMTP settings, this is a breeze.

Step 1

For Outlook, navigate to “File”> “Information”> “Account Settings”> “Server Settings”.

Step 2

Now click on incoming mail and enter your network settings. The Outlook interface shows the IMAP server settings.

These are the AOL email settings you need to set up a protocol for your AOL inbox:

  • AOL POP settings

  • AOL server name: pop.aol.com

  • Server port: 995

  • Encryption method: SSL

  • AOL mail IMAP settings

  • IMAP server: imap.aol.com

  • Server port: 993

  • Encryption method: SSL

After you set up the account settings of the received mail server, you should also start receiving AOL emails in the email application.

Summary

While AOL Webmail has its powerful email client features, you can easily set up your AOL email account on any email application of your choice.

Just follow the steps I described in this article to enter the settings, and you can manage AOL email through your favorite email application
